Strong and Proud
The Nation's capital has been hit.
A national disaster has been declared.
A violent and dangerous earthquake,
Has people confused and running scared.
The quake didn’t just happen in Washington D.C.
The quake could be felt from miles away.
No one knew what the damage was then,
They found out the bad news later that day.
The first warning came at the National Zoo.
The animals could sense something was coming.
People all around didn’t know was wrong,
But they knew something bad was forthcoming.
In less than a minute the damage was done.
There was no going back once it was through.
Panic and fear spread across the state,
Like a bad case of the flu.
The earthquake reached a 5.8,
On the Richter magnitude scale.
Now the surrounding buildings
And monuments are weak and frail.
Buildings and monuments have been damaged.
Pieces of them came crashing down.
All are sad to see the catastrophe,
Even the tourist from out of town.
The Washington monument represents honor.
The World War II monument represents loss.
Americans sad to see the damage,
But still standing proud with arms crossed
Even after a devastating disaster,
Our nation is strong with people caring.
The flag still waves,
As we start repairing.
