To some, we had found it
All the ingredients there
The basis of a future
One where two lives would share
Yet something was missing
I know you felt it too.
So up came the barriers
Round all we felt to be true
On we trudged through these feelings
Ignoring all we did doubt
Knowing something was missing
Unsure just quite what about
We both blamed in experience
We put it down to our past
Constantly ignoring our true feelings
Hoping this time we would last
Together, time just slipped by us
Opportunities were lost
We had missed other chances
Of what we yearned for the most
To be as one with a partner
Feeling the sparks as they fly
Feel the love as it smolders
So hot you feel you might cry
When we met we had something
This at the time was the best
I know now we must move on: And lay our past to rest
This love we sought: We never had it
Not to the depth and degree
We were kidding ourselves
As lovers not meant to be
Yet as friends I do know that
Never shall we be apart
And I will always protect you
From your own wandering heart.
