Underpass Morning
A bus sighs at the kerb,
letting out its small congregation
of strangers scattering toward crossings
and corners, each carrying the weight
of their own untousled stories.
Above them, the overpass
keeps its vigill
— steel ribs holding their days in place.
A pigeon lifts off,
startled by nothing specific,
air shifts as consideried thought.
and through it all,
I walk,
feeling the city
offering up, unspoken guidance:
no lesson, nor warning
could supply
— just the gentle nudge
that even in our rush,
something watches,
steady and patient,
grateful we'd noticed.
