paused participle

Paused Participle

spent in the early light,

the day already shaped before waking,

each hour carried forward as if pre‑written.

washed in noon’s wide glare,

colours softened by what has already passed,

the sky holding what it has gathered.

pressed into late afternoon,

shadows lengthened by what they once were,

the ground marked by earlier footsteps.

folded into evening,

tasks completed yet lingering at the edges,

the air thick with what has been done.

paused in the final quiet,

the whole day resting in its own grammar,

a paused participle — finished, yet still held.
