The gift of rain

It was a cold, dark day. The sun didn’t come out. There was complete silence on Earth, birds weren’t singing, horses weren’t running, butterflies weren’t flying from flower to flower, the only sound was the fresh wind blowing. Suddenly, the wolf was brave enough to come out its cave and look around to see what was happening. –“It’s gray.” –said the wolf. Other animals started to come out as well to see what the wolf was saying, they weren’t afraid of each other, but of what was happening. “Where did the sun go?”- Asked the squirrel. The sky was turning black, clouds were coming closer, there were lights coming from the sky making a big and strong sound. “Where are those sounds coming from?”- Asked the tortoise. “Maybe the Gods are angry”- said the bear. Suddenly, water started to fall from the sky. All the animals started to run back to their homes, nobody knew what was happening. “Is the world ending?”- Asked the rabbit. Rivers began to flood and the water didn’t stop falling from the sky. –“Stop!” yelled the bird looking up to the sky, “please stop!” he continued crying, hoping the gods would listen to his fragile, little voice.  On the spur of the moment, the sky was clear, clouds were white again; sun started shining and the gray color of the sky turned into blue. Everyone was relieved and came out their homes, thanking it was over. Days passed by, they were calm and sunny, but they continue passing and they became hotter and dryer. Animals where thirsty, rivers dried, the bright green color of the plants turned into a pale yellow. “Water! We need water!”- Cried the buffalo. “I’m thirsty and it’s hot”- complained the armadillo. Suddenly there was a big flash of light Zeus arrived to earth. Nobody said a word, all the animals were amazed and a little scared at the same time. “Well”- said Zeus. “I’ve been hearing some complains about the lack of water but days ago I heard complains when I sent you water.” The animals understood that the rain wasn’t a bad thing, it wasn’t the world ending, and it was a gift sent from the gods. And since that day, every day that rained was a beautiful and good day.

The moral of the story is to learn to appreciate and see the good in everything and at any situation.
