JULIE is back on DR. ROBERT MC MILLAN’S couch.
JULIE
I think Phil’s starting to act impulsive.
DR. ROBERT MC MILLAN
Do you think it is impulsiveness or merely spontaneity? There’s a delicate line between the two.
JULIE
Well, we were walking into a movie the other night when out of the blue he changed his mind and refused to go in. We had already bought tickets and everything.
DR. ROBERT MC MILLAN
Did he give you a reason?
JULIE
He said it was a ridiculous bunch of flying samurais speaking gibberish.
DR. ROBERT MC MILLAN
Oh, you mean that Leaping Tiger movie?
JULIE
I guess. We never got a chance to see it.
DR. ROBERT MC MILLAN
So what did you do?
JULIE
He took me to a chick flick instead about a guy who ran a record store. It irritated me because it reminded me so much of Jeff, only the main character was better-looking. Oh, and he kept making lists.
DR. ROBERT MC MILLAN
Phil was making lists during the movie?
JULIE
No, no, the guy in the movie kept making lists. I think it was John Cusack.
DR. ROBERT MC MILLAN
And why does John Cusack remind you of Jeff; the list making?
JULIE
Not just that; the way he acted was like Jeff too. Actually, John Cusack’s friend in the movie looked more like Jeff, because John Cusack would have to gain like about two hundred pounds. And coincidentally, in real life, Jeff has a friend named John.
DR. ROBERT MC MILLAN
Okay, let me get this straight, so John’s friend looks like Jeff in real life but John Cusack reminds you of Jeff?
JULIE
No, not really—I mean Jeff isn’t half as spontaneous as John Cusack—but Jeff is always writing poetry, making lists and rating stuff all the time like John Cusack was, plus they both work at record stores.
DR. ROBERT MC MILLAN
Hmm, so the guy that looks like John Cusack’s friend in the movie reminds you of Jeff in real life, but Jeff’s real friend is named John, but he is nothing like John Cusack?
JULIE
Come to think of it, yes, John Cusack’s friend reminds me of John, Jeff’s real life friend, but doesn’t really look like him as much.
DR. ROBERT MC MILLAN
So you’ve finally got it figured out in your head now.
JULIE leans back on the couch and smiles.
JULIE (CONT’D)
Imagine how confused I’d been had I gone to see Leaping Tiger! I guess Phil was right.
DR. ROBERT MC MILLAN
See, it wasn’t impulsiveness at all!
JULIE
Guess not! Phil just knows how to read my soul.
