EXT – PANCAKE HUT PARKING LOT - DAY

TITLE: Sunday, August 27, 2000, 6:23pm

JEFF (V.O.)

(singing)

Tonight’s the night, gonna be alright!  Oh I love ya girl, ain’t nobody gonna stop us now!

(speaking)

Everything seems so serendipitous!  If that song’s on the sound system when we arrive I’ll know this is preordained.

INT- PANCAKE HUT LOBBY – DAY

JEFF, this time, leads JOHN into the lobby.

They are greeted by SARAH.

JEFF

(to Sarah)

Oh, we’re just here to meet someone.

JEFF (V.O.)(CONT’D)

I don’t want Sarah to know, in case Evette hasn’t told her.

JEFF cocks his head to listen to the overhead music.

The Rolling Stones’ ‘Waiting on a Friend’ plays overhead.

JEFF (V.O.)

To night is the night.  It’s not night yet, it’s still evening!

JEFF looks to his right for EVETTE, to no avail.

JEFF looks to table sixteen and notices EVETTE, sitting in the sunlight, in street clothes with her hair down.

EVETTE looks amazingly beautiful.

JOHN and JEFF move toward her table.

EVETTE

I’ll have a coke with no ice!

JEFF is smiling nervously.

JEFF (V.O.)

Wow she looks so hot. What do I say to her?  Awesome?  No, that’s a really overused word.  Beautiful?  That is appropriate, but even more overused. Ravishing?  Yeah, you don’t hear that word too much!  Plus, it implies that she is doing something to me; which she certainly is!

JEFF (CONT’D)

You look ravishing.

JOHN

You do look hot.

EVETTE

Thank you!  It’s amazing how bad those Pancake Hut uniforms make a person look.

JEFF

Oh, I don’t think so, you look good in the uniform too.

EVETTE

You’re just saying that.

JEFF

No, really.

JOHN

(looking at his watch)

We better get going; the movie starts in less than half an hour.
