INT – TRAVELODGE HOTEL FRONT DESK - DAWN
TITLE: TRAVELODGE HOTEL. Sunday, August 6, 2000. 11:54am.
LISA-ANN and JOHN are at the front desk doing busy work.
JEFF (V.O.)
Lisa Ann and I became friends late one night in 1997 when she wandered into Pancake Hut to avoid a creepy stalker she’d flirted with a bit too openly. I was lamenting the loss of my one true love, Theresa. Leese let me read her my poetry, and that night, her act of kindness was akin to coaxing a man down from a ledge on the twentieth floor. Unfortunately, she’s not my type; she’s older and doesn’t believe in love. She is a great listener, though. She even got John his job at the Travelodge hotel front desk with her. John knows how to file the receipts but this morning he’s still half-asleep from last night’s activities.
JOHN
Lisa-Ann, where do I file these receipts at?
LISA-ANN
Oh, give ‘em to me.
JEFF (V.O.)
Lisa Ann is the epitome of D.I.Y., yet she doesn’t know what the abbreviation stands for.
JOHN
(groggy)
I was up pretty late last night.
LISA-ANN
Were you with Jeff?
JOHN
Yeah, I think it's over between him and Julie.
LISA-ANN
Really, why do you say that?
JOHN, looking surprised, nudges Lisa-Ann.
JOHN
Uh…
JULIE and PHIL HAYES, arm in arm and ogling each other, obliviously stroll up to the front desk.
LISA-ANN
Julie?!
JULIE looks up, sees LISA-ANN, abruptly separates from PHIL HAYES and acts even more startled.
JULIE
No way! It's not what you think!
PHIL HAYES is nonchalant and simply hands LISA-ANN the room key.
PHIL HAYES
We're just here to return the key.
LISA-ANN looks at the computer screen.
LISA-ANN
So, Mister and Mrs. Hayes. Are you two absolutely sure you won’t need to stay another night?
PHIL HAYES
No, we'll be checking out now.
JULIE flees outside, PHIL HAYES runs out after her.
EXT – TRAVELODGE HOTEL – DAWN
JULIE
Travelodge!? I thought they worked at Econolodge!
PHIL HAYES
Who? Who?
JULIE
Lisa-Ann and John- Jeff's friends.
PHIL HAYES
Jeff? Jeff who?
JULIE
The guy I was with last night. My ‘ex.’ You know, Jeff!
PHIL HAYES
So, big deal.
JULIE’S eyes widen as she raises her voice.
JULIE
They'll both tell Jeff and he'll think I'm a slut.
PHIL HAYES
Yeah…so?
JULIE runs off.
