We're friends to keep each other
safe from harm's way
and, when we can't,
we hold hands to carry
the burden of not one, but two.

We're friends to give each other
a shoulder to cry on
when things are too tough
to endure alone.

We're friends to share
smiles and laughter
when the world's going right.

We're friends to make mockery
of slamming doors and to show
what keeping faith conquers.

We're friends to make promises
of what we can triumph together
as leant angels with invisible wings.

We're friends watching TV
together in silence and feeling
as though we've had
the best conversation ever.

We're friends to share
our family with and make
room for more love.

We're friends because of
a million reasons, but
what matters the most
is we care about each other.
