Raptures of the Night (a cento)

Folder:
2006 Poetry

Tongue brushed artistry

provoking tender chills,

over the

glistening trails

licked cherry red.

Caressing

every sultry curve,

melding

in pools of desire.

Bathing

in sweet honey

as passion explodes.

Screaming

deliverance beneath

the raptures of the night.

Author's Notes/Comments:

The cento: is basically a patchwork poem created completely by using lines from different authors. This form has been around since the 2nd century or so and was used by scholarly monks and versions of the form have been used by T.S. Elliot in the eccologues and Ezra Pound in the Canto's. Though it is not thought that any prominent poetry has been written in the pure style of the form since the 15th century.
