Life Long Love

Folder:
2003 Poetry

I fell in love when I was young,

growing stronger as time passed.

It's been just me and my love,

together for all these long years.

Day after day we would curl up,

enjoying the comfort known only to me.

Always there giving me warmth,

and easing all life's turbulent slides.

People tried to get between us,

but I would not allow it to be.

They said it was bad for me,

and would cause my eventual end.

They didn't know the depth of this love,

so I always ignored and turned a deaf ear.

Now I'm here sitting in this lonely corner,

sipping the ambrosia of my life.

Waiting for my love to take me away,

with death so close now at hand.

My beloved whiskey finally burning,

finally eating and rotting my insides away.
