sun shining
clear skies
the lawn one cut away from winter,
and the factory across the street
still clanging to the cling
of next years shutdown
Another year close to passing
on this hallowed eve
Radio stations putting out warnings
of early Jason sightings
Channel Two playing the epic battle
between Frankenstein and the Wolfman
and when I went and got breakfast this morning
not only was I served by a witch
I watched them raise the price of gas by ten cents
I guess Thanksgiving isn't soon enough
He sits in his recliner, day after day
she waits on him hand and foot
yet she has one leg planted much deeper than his.
How does a son hate a father for refusing to live
just to prove a point!
It wasn't that long ago that I could breathe
that I didn't mind fulfilling a promise
even though my heart aches every single day
being away from home, away from you, away from us
Maxie and Gizzy
Casey and Courtney
Mom and Pop
and then there is
You.
Our babies
Our girls
My parents
and then there is
The Love Of My Life
I'm where I have to be
certainly not the place I want to be in
A son honoring a promise, and a son who understands that
but who wishes a father wouldn't punish him
for refusing to believe he is dying
It makes it harder on the Man who misses home so much
much less having to watch his mother's tears
of pain, and fear, and helplessness
The weather here is glorious
Autumn has fallen so beautifully in place
as I'm writing this, I'm thinking of only you
wishing it was five o'clock in South Texas
and I am standing there waiting
for your hands, your arms, your lips
and the "I Love You's" that follow
in every breath we share
