DROWNING IN A SEA OF THOUGHT WAVES

TOOK A LONG WALK ON A SHORT PIER

END UP DROWNING HOW'D I GET HERE

TOOK A SHORT WALK ON A LONG PIER

WONDERING WHAT I'M DOING HERE

THEN IMAGINE WENT FOR A SWIM

JUST ON A WHIM  OUT ON A LIMB

OF A BIG OLD TREE BY THE SEA

DANGLING FREE THEN SUDDENLY

CAUGHT BY A WAVE THAT WAS ENRAGED

WHY DID I DARE TO DANGLE THERE

RIGHT IN ITS WAY I COULDN'T SAY

AND SO IT SPLASHED AND SLAPPED I CRASHED

I SWAM ABOUT BEGAN TO SHOUT

IT KNOCKED ME OUT WITHOUT A DOUBT

IT PUSHED ME BACK ONTO THE SHORE

I WOULDN'T MESS WITH WAVES NO MORE

DROWNING IN A SEA OF THOUGHT WAVES

WONDERING WHY IF IT BEHAVES

MIGHT ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE SOME DAY

BUT FOR NOW DOESN'T SEEM THAT WAY

YET I COMMIT IT TO THE PAGE

LIKE TAKING ORDERS FROM SOME SAGE

WHO SEEMS TO KNOW BETTER THAN I

SOMEDAY THERE'LL BE A REASON WHY

THIS TALE DOESN'T WANT TO END

IT'S MUCH LONGER THAN I INTEND

IT CAUSES ME TO APPREHEND

TO UNDERSTAND TO COMPREHEND

THAT EVERYTHING HAS GOT TO END

Author's Notes/Comments:

I WAS WATCHING A PINK CONCERT VIDEO AND THERE WAS A LINE ABOUT TAKING A LONG WALK ON A SHORT PIER AND THINKING OF THAT FAMILIAR PHRASE THIS POEM SLOWLY CAME AND DIDN'T WANT TO END...MUCH LONGER THAN USUAL STUFF...THEY ALL HAVE A LIFE OF THEIR OWN...I JUST LET THEM BE WHAT THEY WANT TO BE...NOT UP TO ME...
