it is an epicenter of hope
your illustrious Istanbul
a mix of modern
meets ancient
from the market places
to her
sky loving eaves
the mosques and the parks
the hotels so draped in luxury
the glut of every day people
trot forth
to and from their diverse destinations
in cars, on their motor bikes,
their scooters
gawking
as they are walking on the
wondering soles of
their feet
all up and down the busy byways of
her streets
life is puzzling and unpuzzling
her layers
as each newcomer intersects with
an old timer
to hear the tales of days in the dry
of emperors, rulers, wars gone by
and what purposes they served
to the common man
working to survive
a thing of beauty she is
your Istanbul
be proud of her
explore her
know her
and love her all the more
for she has taken you in
and made you one of her own
with the generosity of a
kindhearted host
kiss her on her cheek
and pay her always
the compliments she deserves......................
