Daisy`s

Bob sat uncomfortably in the restaurant’s cabinet, not that there was anything wrong with it, he was just too nervous to remain still. He adjusted his position for the hundredth time and his tie for probably the thousandth, and sipped his whiskey. ‘I think she’ll be good for you’ was all his friend Sarah had told him when he finally agreed to go on a blind date with the girl she fixed him up with, all he knew about her was her name, Daisy. So lost in his own thoughts was he that he didn’t even notice the girl walking over to him and sitting at his table.

“Sup?” said the girl with hair so black it looked blue, she had a nose piercing and was a wearing combat boots, ripped out jeans and a black tank top. Bob could also see the tattoo of a snake crawling up her neck.

“Uhmm” confused he didn’t know what to say to the lady sitting across from him, although her way of devouring the bread sticks made it hard for him to think of her as a lady.

“Sarah said you were stiff but she didn’t say anything about you being mute”.

“Daisy?” asked Bob in complete shock, he hasn’t been on a date since his divorce and he couldn’t believe this was Sarah’s choice for him to start dating again.

“The one and only” she answered as she put a cigarette between her lips and cursed as she tried to get the lighter to work, “Got a light?”

Before Bob could even answer Daisy grabbed the fancy candle from the table and lit her cigarette as a waitress approached with a look on her face you would swear she saw a ghost.

“Miss! You can’t smoke in here!”

“What? You’re kidding me right?”

“I’m afraid I’m not, it’s policy…”

“Whatever, lets bounce…” she said nonchalantly and grabbed Bob’s hand dragging him out.

“But where will we go?” he asked as he buttoned his suit.

“I know a place” she said as she let go of his hand and they started walking down the street “so, Bob, what do you do?”

“Uhmm, I just started working at a bank” Daisy sighed and rolled her eyes “I also write a little…”

“No way!” she said scandalously “that’s how I met Sarah, we were in a book club together and sometimes we’ll read our own stuff, she did short stories but I’m more of a poetry girl”.

“Really?” Bob surprised himself, he thought that a girl that looked like her wouldn’t be a really literate person “I like writing poetry”.

“This is crazy, man” she held her hand in the air and Bob gave her a nervous high five, he couldn’t remember when was the last time he had done that.

“Here we are! This is real food and not that tiny stuff fancy restaurants like to charge you so much money for”.

They were standing in front of a food truck, a guy flipping burgers wiped out the sweat from his forehead with his arm and when he saw Daisy he gave her a friendly smile.

“Same as always, D?”

“Yeah, just make it two”

She reached into Bob’s suit and, to his astonishment, pulled out his wallet.

“I assume you’re paying, is sexist I know but I don’t have any money on me”.

“Don’t worry about it”.

At first Bob felt weird for eating while standing up but Daisy made him laugh a lot and there was something kind of cozy about her.

“No way! Marco, hey!” Daisy waved at a guy near by and he approached.

“What’s up, D?” said the guy in a white shirt and pants so low they looked like they were about to drop.

“Oh this is Bob”.

“A pleasure to meet you” said Bob and extended his hand at him.

“Hey, bro!” said Marco and gave Bob the most elaborate handshake he’d ever received in his entire life.

“I haven’t seen you in forever!” said Daisy.

“Yeah, I finally opened my tattoo shop around the block, you should come, it’s on me, your guy can get something too”.

“What?” asked Bob confused and once again Daisy grabbed his hand and dragged him.

In the room filled with fluorescent light he saw that Daisy had a tattoo of a skull wearing a crown of daisies close to her ribs. He saw her and all he could think was this girl is completely insane, and he smiled.
