My eyes
Are a sunny sky blue
They smile ever so brightly
At you.
My lips scream “Hello!”
They’re cheerful ready to brighten
Your day.
My teeth shine bright
Through all that delight,
But behind my eyes are rusty bars
Cutting up my soul
With chains starting to link together they’re
Connected with my past
I was only 3
When my dad
Barely missed me
With his hammer.
Only 2 when parents
Scream and shouted.
Wine bottles smashed against
The wall with beer on the floor and
Smeared on the wall
I didn’t understand
Why a stranger ripped
Me from what I knew;
Threw me in homes
I never knew!
These chains clicking together.
My brain working out this puzzle
I’m forced to put together!
My hands are bleeding from the jagged mirrored puzzle. There’s no other way to describe it.
My laughter is heard. Oh hurray!
The screams of “Help me“
are covered.
I learned to just keep quiet.
I wasn’t even 1 when this all started...
So I’ll sing “Happy Birthday” when all is quiet.
