Finally

2008 Poems

Open the door,

Step out onto the ledge.

Looks down at the ground far below.

Looks to the soft, summer sky.

His breathing quickens,

His heart beats out of time.

Screaming from the rooftop,

His pain breaks the surface.

No one looks to care,

Shake their heads.

Just another kid,

Just another statistic.

His time is up,

No sooner then it began.

Twenty years wasted away,

Twenty years of regret.

Looks at the face in the mirror,

He doesn’t know the reflection.

All he wanted was perfection,

What the world asked of him.

Those who just laughed,

He never fit the bill.

He wasn't the stereotype,

He couldn't fit in.

If he can’t take care of himself,

How can he take care of others?

Nothing changed,

No matter the promises.

He lied to himself,

Betrayed his one life.

Tried to change,

Time and time again.

Nothing happened,

Just a cheap covering.

The real self remained,

Reveled to beat him back down.

Destroyed the only chances at escape,

To scared to leave the life he knows.

To scared to do anything,

To afraid to let himself feel.

He yearns for what he can't let himself feel.

The face turns, Eyes staring you down.

Tears of blood pour down his face.

He opens is mouth to scream,

But no sound can escape.

All that’s left is for him to lean,

Just a little bit further over the ledge.

The rush of wind in his ears,

Wipes away the tears.

Floating down,

He crashes without a sound.

A body onto the pavement,

Never had a chance.

The crack of flesh and bone,

The slap of the impact.

The final grin,

The final victory.

Finally, the end.
