When I was younger, my grandfather decided to wear a Santa Claus costume on a crhistmas night. It was my little cousin´s first christmas so he wanted to remember this night the rest of his life. Since that day, the Santa Claus costume has been a symbol of union within my family.
Now, in every Christmas night just when the clock turn 12 am Santa Claus appear and the whole family stands up to welcome him. Only after that, it is time to open the presents. All the kids and me usually impatiently wait for our turn to sit on his legs and receive the magical present he is about to give us.
I remember one time that it was Jazmin´s turn, and while I was waiting for my turn to come I just look how she was staring at Santa´s face and how she was amazed. Jazmin sat on his legs and soon as she could she grabbed his beard and realized he was our grandfather. All of us kids where surprised but we were glad it was him and immediately hugged him. The truth came out that day, but ever since then we wait every Christmas night to see that red costume again.
3 years later, things didn't happen as everybody expected, the man in the red costume came that night with a big bag full of presents for everybody in that party. Santa also had a big gold bell and told us to come with him, so all the kids and me went along the street where he was standing. Then, we run all around the block laughing and screaming HO HO HO happy Christmas everybody! Other children started to come out of their houses and they were so happy they met Santa Clause. We helped Santa by giving all the presents to those kids who were so astonished and so happy for that moment.
There was a time when my grandfather couldn`t be santa any more, so my uncle Pablo took his place. The red costume still a tradition in my family.
Until now, there is no Christmas we spend without the red costume, every 25 of December it appears always in time. The man with the red costume, white beard and hair and black boots is always happy to give presents to the ones he loves.
