it still amazes me
the places i find peace.

today i’m parked on a gravel
road in the middle of nowhere.

lingering clouds are hiding the sunrise
and there isn’t another soul awake for miles.

before i enter this corn field,
i’m going to stretch my arms out wide

and enjoy what’s left of the darkness
before the sun rudely interrupts my moment.

this I think to myself
with the light calming air

as it floats across the rows
like a cool ocean breeze.
