We dream of Heaven
to turn our gaze
away from
what goes on here
We imagine streets paved with gold
to ignore overdraft fees
We see lil' naked angel babies bouncing on clouds
to stay blind to some of our own
baaaaaadAzz kids
bouncing from trouble to trouble
Oh yea
We dream of Heaven
We dream of it's Perfection
out of our own reach
We even dream of everybody who ain't here now
being there
even if we gotta think twice about it
We say Perfection lies in Heaven
too afraid to speak on the imperfections here
We say Heaven lasts Forever
too afraid to admit that Forever
has no meaning here
We see the Sky & the Sun
& we say
that they
must be where Heaven begins
too afraid to reach past the Sky & the Sun
for a better view of Heaven
I dreamt of Heaven
I was a giant in the Sky
Flying
I parted the clouds & placed the sun in my rear view
to view Heaven
down below
to wake-up & understand that I see Heaven here
Turn your gaze from the sky
& speak life into Forever
having all the meaning here
Heaven lies in the wisdom of a mother's words
the subtle kindness of a grandmother's care
the momentum of a young brother's potential
and yes
the legacy left behind by this man
for his wife
his mother
his grandmother
his brother
his sisters
his cousins
his aunts
his uncles
his nieces
his nephews
his friends
his co-workers
& all in this room to share
I am not sad today
I understand that today
while he rises to Heaven

hold Heaven within us all
to pave the bridges of our relationships with Gold
to speak on imperfections that make our human existence worthwhile
to rise up like giants in the sky
