Burial

Folder:
Poems 2005

Prehistoric ways of life
still hosting at home burials:
natural mummification under the family hearth,

Synthetic preservation of dead ideals are found with

worthless symbols
thrown into the river
where your loved ones were drowned.

A cultural revolution,
classical representation with that damned grid system,
thrown out the window.

South Asian embalming:

loved ones forever held within the trees.

In Egypt if properly cared for
     the Ka will rise.

Strange looking children
gaze on as their father is wrapped in sacred cloth.
Temporary beliefs crack and fall.

The living cling to the
ceremonies of the deceased.
     Go visit your dead.
Light incense and feast for their birth.

Step out your door.
Face the sun.
Rise from your grave.
Stare towards the east.

Wait for the word
of what is yet to come.
