Nano Era

Flash Fiction

The Nano-Era

Karkapova and Lance were working on the lab, trying to desperately find a cure for deadly viruses and chronic diseases that have been spreading and coming out throughout the entire world for the last decade. It is the year 2020 and technology has improved a lot since the Nano materials revolution. In only five years Nano technology has become famous in all the fields: engineering, medicine, science, among others. It has helped us understand more and build the world the way we want. These two scientists are in the peak of a new era; one where they can control, alter, and modify the DNA of any being alive.

Lance was analyzing the behavior of the viruses of HIV, Ebola, and Cancer in a sedated ape. Of course every virus was inside a different ape. On the other side Karkapova was building a Nano scale robot controlled by a set of advanced algorithms. This incredibly small robot could only be seeing using a microscope capable of seeing 10 to the negative 9 meters; lucky for them, they had twelve of them. The purpose of this little robot called RVK-1 is to surround the virus with an army of Nano robots and change its genetic code so the virus would start killing itself, and to do this the robot will be carrying inside its head a specific drug focused on killing a specific virus. Meaning that for each virus there will be a different drug.

                “Is RVK-1 ready Dr. Karkapova?”

                “Yes”

“Good”- Lance walked towards a dark room with a big machine that looked like a metal box with soft edges inside.

“Bring RVK-1 for mitosis”- Ordered Lance.

Karkapova was holding a small cube about six cubic centimeters with a dust particle inside. The dust particle was the Nano Robot ready to multiply. He took the box to the room, opened the machine and put it inside it. By this time they both were wearing protective lenses and a protective suit against radiation. Karkapova left the room and Lance closed the door of the vault. Both were behind a wall with a window to see what was going on inside. They initialized the mitosis process through a computer. Suddenly the lights went off together with all the electronic devices; the machine was consuming all the power. After ten minutes of intense sparks and colorful lightning the mitosis process ended. They both waited behind the window for the Nano reactor to cool down. Once it did they both opened the vault. As Lance took the box out of the reactor what they saw was impressive. Before there was an “empty” box, now they saw a liquid type solid; that liquid was billions and billions of Nano Robots.

“We got it!”- Said Karkapova with excitement.

The next step was injecting the RVK-1 into the apes and see how does it reacts with the virus. Lance put one third of the liquid inside the syringe and on another syringe he took infected blood out of the first ape. After that he combined the nano robots with the blood on a circular container while Karkapova was on the Nano-scope ready to see the results. As the liquid containing the Nano robots started to cover the blood he saw how the RVK-1 injected the genetic code into the virus and how after seconds the virus died. Karkapova told the results to Lance and just as him Lance was impressed and incredibly happy. They did the same test with the other apes and the results were as great and unbelievable as the first apes. Finally they injected the RVK-1 inside the apes. Not even days, an hour later the three apes showed no sign of the virus they were injected with; they were one hundred percent cured.

But one man´s creation is another man´s weapon.
