Learning from the Past I thought my life of loneliness
was meant to hurt me,
but all this time
you were protecting me.
You kept me away from situations
I could not overcome
by equipping me
with shyness.
What I believed was a barrier
was actually a blessing
because it preserved my heart
from too much damage.
So now I can face the world
with the knowledge
that being sheltered
guarded me from unnecessary pain.
