Baring Our Souls

Sometimes it is easier to believe a lie than pursue the truth. So we let men whisper sweet nothings in our ears rather than clinging to the One who knows us better than we know ourselves. We feel more comfortable baring our bodies than baring our souls. It makes sense that we prefer to take off our clothes and pretend to feel satisfied.

We mistakenly believe Adam and Eve were ashamed of their nakedness. But they were hiding from God not themselves because they felt that their weakness was exposed. And we still do that today.

Sexual gratification feels good for a moment, but never truly satisfies. True fulfillment involves complete nakedness: physically as well as emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Being so vulnerable can be overwhelming.

That’s what separates Christianity from other religions. Other beliefs require you to comply with a set of rules or rituals. Other gods seem distant and impersonal. The one true God set Himself apart by not asking us to do anything else but to accept His love. At our core, that’s all we really need.

Christianity, to some, may appear the same as the others. Obedience is one of the cornerstones after all. It’s true: God wants us to observe His commands. But if you really examine each command you see that obeying them is for our own good. He wants what's best for us. He doesn’t expect perfection from us, but he knows that when you love someone, you sacrifice for them. And that’s what he wants us to do.
