A physician bag
Dr. E.L.V. bold and yellow are written on this vintage, black leather, physician bag. The initials stand for Eliseo Lugo Valenzuela, my grandfather. Reaching only 6 years old before my grandpa passed away I have a vague memory of him. However, I rely on the memories my family reminiscences on his personality. Although I never saw him carrying this bag, every time I pass through the small hall of my house, the bag, which is placed on a dark wooden with granite counter, my grandpa comes to mind. You may think that it would be foolish not to think of a person when their name is written on something, yet it isn’t the initials written on the bag that reminds me of my grandpa, but what the bag symbolizes that reminds me of him. Dedicated, passionate, hard worker, and responsible are adjectives that describe my grandfather. Everytime I pass the bag, I picture my grandfather wearing a doctor’s white coat, and the stories pop up of how dedicated and passionate he was with his work. He would stay late at the consultant working, and never complained about his job. Other than being a doctor, he was an agriculturer. Managing these two jobs required lots of commitment and many hours. He was responsible and prioritized his family first. My grandfather who showcased these characteristics with his actions, reflect and the values he had in life. Ever heard of how we end up being like our parents when we grow up? I take this as evidence. My grandpa had 5 children and they all represent these characteristics, he was compassionate to them teaching them important values in life. Walking on my wooden floor, passing the vintage, black leather, physician bad, with the initials Dr. E.L.V written bold and yellow Eliseo Lugo Valenzuela pops up in my head. It’s not the words that remind me of him, but the bag, and if I were to open this bag, words that describe my grandfather would be placed inside.
