The Great Escape

There was once an island in the middle of Nemean sea. The island was two miles long and four miles wide. There was a beach on every coast. This island was a special kind of island because it was inhabited by animals that walked on two feet, instead of four. The animals on the island all spoke the native tongue, which was a gift from the creator of the island.

Long before the island was created, the creator, Otok, was thinking about giving his innumerable pets a place to live. Otok had indeed created the whole world, but he wanted to create this island far off in middle of Nemean Sea, so that his pets wouldn’t escape and roam free all over the Earth. He had a male species and a female species of every type of animal there was. He decided to go through with his plan and made the island. He sent the animals to the island and gave them the gift of being able to understand one another. Otok had the idea of giving some of his knowledge to a pair of his animals, and so he did. He decided to give his knowledge to his favorite pair, the lion and the lioness.

Life on the island was pretty plain, daily activities consisted of watching the sunrise, having their three to four meals a day, and watching the sunset. Sometimes they would do different activities. For example they would count the number of stars there were in the galaxy or they would even search for seashells. Their life was simple and they enjoyed it that way.

One morning, while the animals were watching the sunrise, Otok came down and spoke to them: “This will be the last sunrise you will see in this island, and the last sunset as well.” He left afterwards leaving no explanation. All the animals started to worry, it was the end of the world. However, the lion and the lioness, with all their abundant knowledge, thought that only the island, what was their world, would be destroyed. They began to think about finding another island to live on. They knew that if they tried to get all the animals off the island, Otok would notice their plan and possibly sabotage it. So, the lion and the lioness kept their plan solely to themselves and only they would be the ones to escape.

They made a small raft from the trees and twigs on the island and then they grabbed some food and left the island hoping they would find another island where the world wouldn’t end. They felt superior and smarter since they were the only ones who had the idea to leave. However, as they were sailing, they couldn’t find any land, and the sunset was approaching. They were sad and desperate, but at the same time were feeling accomplished because they had fooled Otok and escaped an inevitable death. The sunset came, and everything around them went dark, even the stars began to fall from the sky. And so they knew, that fate is fate and their death truly was inevitable.

Moral of the Fable: “There is no such thing as accident; it is fate misnamed.” -Napoleon Bonaparte

The lion and the lioness tried to escape their fate that was already set in stone from them. As people we must be willing to accept the fate and destiny that has been planned and destined for us. We must be willing to appreciate it and live it out to the best of our ability.
