Every time you enter into my grandmother’s house, you would see her sitting at the dining room, waiting for all the big family to arrive with the same black purse, she has always have, in her hands. Even if many hours have passed, she will be there waiting for us, waiting for someone who can go and buy tortillas. She will always get her black purse, and give us money to buy tortillas. I wait for many years to be my turn, until I started to go with my cousin, then I understand how time passes so fast. She always takes out of her purse the same quantity of money and we know that time passes and prices get higher, but my grandmother can see that, she continues seeing everything and even us the same way, like little kids that will never grow. It can be anything she asks us to go buy, tortillas, chicken or meat, she will always get her black purse and gives the same quantity of money, but we just smile and go to buy the things. I wondering for many years why grandma always have the same black purse, until my dad told me that when he was a little kid, he was the one who always go to buy anything grandma needed, and since then she has that black purse, so I realized that, that purse has a very sentimental value for grandma, every time she gives us money is like if she is giving money to her sons and daughters, but know that my aunts and uncles are adults, she sees us also as her children; no matter what, grandma doesn’t change, she stills sits waiting for us, even that time passes and we change physically, even if someone enters now with their own family, and even if someone is not longer with us, she continues being that lovely grandma. I have learn many things form her, and the most important is to love God and love my family, to don’t give up, even if we are affronting the hardest things. As the same way you have looked at me all this year, I will also look at you in same way grandma, with love and respect and hoping I can have the privilege of continue having you by my side for many-many years more, and learn even more things form you. I will always be available to go and buy whatever she wants.
