My great grandfather have to many poetry notebooks where he have written a lot of poems. He keeps them in a drawer of an old cabinet in his bedroom. He started written before the Cuban Revolution until today, so at first it was only one notebook and over the time the number of notebooks have increased and changed during this years. Although my great grandfather comes from a humilde family and he didnt receive an apropiate education, he has this natural talent and skills to write poetry. His poetry doens’t have an especific topic, he can write about anything, so he didnt classify his notebooks. He just have filled the notebooks, when one notebook is completely full he start a new one. There are so many poems that I can’t count them and there are days that I go to that old cabinet and I start to read them and sometimes I just seat next to my great grandfather and he still can recite some of them. He writes poems for every important day, birthdays, celebrations, graduations, aniversaries and historical dates. He have written a poem for every of my birthdays and I am seventeen now and I am waiting very happily for my next one. This poetry notebooks don’t remain in the cabinet ,they are always out of it, so we can show them to everybody. Sometimes we have parties in my house and when the dinner finished we have a cultural part of the party where we show our talents, some of us play instruments, others can dance and then the best part of the event is when my great grandfather wants someone of the family to read some of the poems in those poetry notebooks. Everybody gets impressed and some of them ask for the notebooks to read them after. Also friends of the family that share this same taste for poetry comes to the house to share their poems so once again this notebooks are taken out of that cabinet to be shown. Now that my great grandfather is very old and lost his view of the two eyes he can’t write anymore but he is still creating new poems, we just wait until he have the poem on his mind and someone of the family looks for one of those notebooks to write it there. He gets very exited when people talks about his poetry and I hope someday he want his poetry to be published so the world can know his talent. (418)
