I could always count on my grandfather´s tuesday´s golf days. Even if the sun was out and shining, and the weather would be borderline perfection, and it just so happened that all of his other friends were also free for the afternoon, he would "sacrifice himself" to go play very long, dreadful and tyring hours of golf to the country club. I still remember how we would just turn to my grandmother and with his most serious and straight face he had, say to her how he just HAD to take one for the team and go meet his buddies for tuesday golf. So off he went every single tuesday morning and played golf with his friends, thenn against them, then get mad at them only to make up two or three holes down the game, then get somewhat annoyed at himself for not making that hole-in-one, and then just forget all about it when he eventually did, and then just come home in the afternoon. Now, there were only a few times i actually got to see this fun and lenghty process, but the thing about it is he would always end up with the same smile he had started with. The best and most comforting smile you could ever imagine. That is why my ultimate-bestest-all around-greatest memory of him that i have - or ok this is another one - is not those three or four times i saw him play but every afternoon when he came back home from tuesday golf. First, picture this: my grandparents´s house garage and the house is connected by this long and narrow kind of sidewalk with wall on one side, that is the house, and bushes on the other, and at the end of it, a few steps further from the door to the living room is the pool. This is were me and all of my cousins could always be found and, well, tuesdays were no different. There was where we always greeted him, and no matter how many grandsons or granddaughters would be there - we are 45 by the way - he would always just say one name: mine! "Fernanda!" he would say with a mocking amercian accent, and that just there would make my entire day. His unspoken acceptance that i was his favorite granddaughter, at least that is what i will always have for me and always use as my defense for my still unbeaten title.
