Advice for parents of children

Read, talk and think about ways your children can improve their understanding, as it is the fundamental goal of learning to read. The following tips offer you fun ways to help your children become safe and happy readers. Try different tips every week and see which ones work best.

Make books something special

Turn reading into something special. Take your children to the library, help them get their own credentials, read with them and give them books. Choose a favorite place to put the books in your home, or better yet, put books everywhere.

Get him to read another book

Find a way for your children to read another book. Introduce it to series like Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, or another book by its favorite author. Ask your librarian for any suggestions. About More information here Booksrun.com

Consult a dictionary

Let your children see you consult the dictionary. Say, I'm not quite sure what that word means. I think I'll look it up in the dictionary.

Talk about what you see and do

Talk about daily activities to improve the contextual knowledge of your son or daughter, which is crucial to understanding what is read and heard. For example, keep an avid conversation while you cook together, visit a new place or watch a program on television.

The first times are difficult

Motivate your children when they write. Remind him that writing consists of several steps. No one does it right the first time.

Different styles for different people

Read different types of books to expose your child to different writing styles. Some children, especially boys, prefer books that are not fiction.

Teach your child mental tricks

Show him how to summarize a story in just a few sentences or how to predict what will happen. Both strategies can help the child understand and remember what he reads.

We are almost there?

Use the time spent in the car or on the bus for word games. Talk about how it means over something, but it is also where the letters are put before sending them by mail. When children are very familiar with the meaning of a word, they have less difficulty reading it.
