FABLE:

Cold Bonfire 

It was quiet and dark. The ice storm had left the whole earth devastated and in ruins, and all the creatures had started to lose faith on survival. “We shall remain together and together we’ll reach happiness and survive” said the Alpha wolf to the village. Days went by and the Alpha, as well as the rest of the animals on the village, started to work together and protect each other. Everyone was kind to one another, solidarity was all over the village. Rabbits, birds, wolves, foxes, turtles, deers and other animals did their best to prevail. They all ate the same food, had the same rights, and helped one another; the pain caused by the long cold temperatures and ruins no longer ached so much. The village started to look better, everyone had built their own little shelters, and had responsibilities according to their abilities. The big animals gathered together materials to build and work, medium-sized animals harvested food and other supplies, the Alpha dog and his crew administered and protected the whole village, the reptiles help on transport, the little ones took care of the sick animals, and help on other duties that needed precision. One day, Raccoon and Fox came with a huge discovery: they could produce fire with rocks.

The Alpha got noticed of the great discovery Raccoon and Fox had made, and gathered the whole village to tell them the happy and promising news. The news spread and everyone danced and sang with joy “we’ll no longer suffer during cold winters!”. The village was happy, the Alpha was no longer worried about the future of his animals and everyone felt proud about Raccoon and Fox. This two became stars among all the creatures of the village, they started working very hard to carefully produce the fire and amount of heat they needed to defrost the village, but decided that the first thing to do was to provide heat to the sick ones and then start to defrost their habitat. Everyone agreed with the decision of benefiting the sick ones with a warm climate first, but not Wildcat. Wildcat thought he and his friends could also produce fire and defrost the area at the same time they heated the sick animals. The Alpha wolf denied Wildcat the permission of creating fire, only Raccoon and Fox could do it, they were the experts dealing with fire.

But Wildcat and his crew refused to follow the Alpha’s orders, they had been watching Raccoon and Fox make fire for a while and learned their technique, and started to build fire on their shelters without caring about anything else. But indeed the wildcats ignored so much about fire and its power. One cold and windy night, the wildcats created a huge and beautiful bonfire get together with the rest of the animals by the side of the supplies and working material area which were mainly pieces of broken trees, and sticks. Suddenly the wind got stronger and violent, the bonfire started to grown until it reached the supplies area and the fire spread all over the village, burning every single part of it. Hours later, the cold ended the fire, and all that remained were  ruins and the echoing noise of silence.
