THE AFTERNOON SUN HAD MOVED ON,
SHOWING OFF AT LAST,HIS VIVID COLORS SO PROUD,
MANGENTAS WITH YELLOW AND ALSO BLUES,
PURPLES AND ORANGES AND PINK HUES,
ALL INFUSED IN A TAPESTRY DREAM.
SUCH FLEETING PLEASURES THERE I TOOK,
WHERE PASSING SHADOWS GATHERED ALL AROUND
ME,
WITHOUT A SINGLE SOUND.
WONDERFUL DAYS, WHEN YOU AND ME,
WE SEEMED TO HAVE'D OWNED ALL THE
SUNSHINES WHICH WERE THEN IN THE SKIES,
AND SWEPT AND CONFUSE WITH ALL THE STRUGGLES
IN LIFE,
MINDLESS SOMETIMES WE LIVE, AND MINDLESS WE DIE.
A LESSON OF LIFE FROM THE UNFORGIVEN WRECKS
OF TIME,
FOUND ALSO IN THE SOUND OF THOUGHTS AND BEAUTY,
THAT TURNS IN SILENT AND DEPARTS,
UNDERNEATH THE FALLEN BLOSSOMS AND LEAVES ONLY
THEIR PERFUME.
