I sat among the rubble
Of a life that seemed unfair
I felt my spirit fleeing
To a pit of great despair
Then an angel softly called
With a voice so fair and sweet
He asked me of my sadness
And the cause of my defeat
It was difficult to answer
But the voice was very kind
And patiently he waited
'Til my problems I outlined
An understanding wisdom
He sought gently to impart
With sweet words of sympathy
He began to reach my heart
The luster of purest gold
Had been borrowed for his hair
Scintillation of the stars
Is also revealed there
Residing in laughing eyes
Is the sparkle from a brook
My thumping heart was melting
As he offered me a look
I do not know the future
But this prayer I've now begun:
Would this angel be with me
Until my life on earth is done?
