Footprints in the Sand

I feel the warm sand between my toes

twisting around my feet.

I taste the bitter taste of salt

and the fresh air whipping against my red cheeks.

I can hear the ocean rumbling..

It sounds so far..

Even though I can see the foam forming nearby

as it crashes against the rocks

Shhhhh

Its sound fades as it bends over

There's just something so romantic

about footprints in the sand,

They're there one minute

and the next they're swept away with the powerful tide

They're gone the minute you turn to see them.

The only memory of them ever being there

is the memory in my mind

and the sand still on my feet.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I actually wrote this poem back in April 2005.. after returning from my trip to the Dominican Republic where I realized how much walking along the beach reaxed me. I can't wait to return there.
