People say wars happens on the battlefield.
That’s where people have died trying to protect themselves with shields.
Bullets and bombs everywhere.
Fighting to protect the ones they love and the people who care.
Their lives are dedicated to helping the people who care for this country as they do.
But what’s going on with the war inside of you?
We fight a war with ourselves.
A war you don’t read about or put on the shelves.
A war that you try to control.
A war that can darken your soul.
This war is not a game.
It's not like the rest and it’s not the same.
But everyone has their own war going on inside.
A war you can only see by looking through their eyes.
Looking through their eyes or walking in their shoes.
Tell me what’s the war that’s going on inside of you.
Is it hurt, pain and sorrow?
Is it the reasons why you hate tomorrow?
Is it the knowledge of knowing that the tears will flow?
But not on the outside as you pick up and go.
Go on with your day like all the rest.
Making people see what you want them to see. Nothing more and nothing less.
Is your war filled with revenge, anger and hate?
Hating the world because nothing can be done because now it’s too late?
Feeling a fire that burns deep within your body.
A fire that makes you lash out at anybody.
Is your war filled with dead ends in life?
Is that the reasons why you silently cry as you cut yourself with a knife?
Better yet slicing yourself with a blade.
Watching your blood flow from the slashes you’ve made.
Is your war drowned with separations and good-byes?
Is it the reasons why I see the weariness in your eyes?
Or is it a combination of all this and so much more?
As I stand in front of this mirror, I tell myself, “These are my battles that begin to describe my war.”
