People say that freedom is the ability to do what you want and make your own choices.
But what happens when you’re on lock down by those inner voices.
Voices of guilt telling you that everything is your fault.
Those voices that’s been with you from a child to an adult.
Are you free just because you’re not bound in chains?
What about the ones that are locked around your heart because of your pain?
Are you free just because you’re not behind bars doing time?
Is that what you really believe in your mind?
Are you free just because you’re not sentenced?
What about the happiness of life that you don’t enjoy because of your resistance?
Being a prisoner no matter where you are.
Meeting new people trying to hide your scars.
A person can be concealed and locked away inside.
You can see the prisoner by looking into their eyes.
You see through life you’ll experience pain that stays with you as you get older.
The weight gets heavier and your heart gets colder.
You think that the choices you’ve made are at your own free will?
What you don’t understand is that your choices are made because of how you feel.
So in reality you’re not truly free,
because you have chains that hold you down just like me.
Freedom isn’t just being able to make a choice.
Freedom is when you’re able to overcome your inner voice.
