Love has been around forever…before the time of calendars and clocks
It has even been discovered painted on prehistoric caves and primeval rocks.
There is no greater gift in life than love…those ancient artists and I believe…
It is a truly magical gift…as beautiful to give…as to receive.
Sometimes when I think of love…and how it’s transformed throughout the ages
I’m reminded of the butterflies…and how they, too, grow in stages.
When I was younger…in my cocoon…unfamiliar with a world so new…
my vision of the world was limited…my vision of love was too.
I didn’t understand, yet, how love is truly a work of art…
and how the best way to experience love is with an open heart.
I did not know at that time…which I learned later, happily, to my surprise
how sometimes to see and feel love…all I have to do is close my eyes…
I did not understand, then, how we were all put on this Earth to love…
to love ourselves as well as other people too…
how it only matters that we love…it does not matter who.
Now I smile when is see people in love…people I don’t even have to meet…
holding hands at the seashore, at the movies or walking down the street.
Gliding along like butterflies…experiencing one of love’s unique stages
people of different sexes, different sizes, different colors, shapes and ages…
Where, once they found each other, and their two lives converge…
The experience a metamorphosis…and slowly…they watch one love emerge.
Which is why when I’ve see love…in any of the many places I have dwelt
I smile filled with the same feeling those ancient artists must have felt.
All those centuries ago…long before the time of calendar and rocks
When they were so moved by the beauty of love…
they preserved that moment forever
on the surfaces of their caves…
and painted on their rocks.
