THE ADVICE HE NEVER GAVE

“I don’t like to give advice…but I will tell you what I know.” my grandpa used to say.

and much of the advice he never gave…I still carry with me today.

No one is perfect…he would say…we all make mistakes and need time to grow.

In a world that sometimes moves too fast…It’s best to take things slow.

He knew how a simple smile could change a persons day…he knew not to ridicule.

He knew people-run religions could be wonderful…and like people they could be cruel.

He knew the value of hopes and dreams…he knew how to wish upon a star.

He knew the importance of friends and family in shaping who we are.

He knew how a gentle touch…a random act of kindness can help wipe away ones tears.

He knew joy is often waiting…on the other side of fear.

He knew we should listen more to nature…he loved a good bookstore.

He knew you could love the soldiers who do the fighting…but hate that there are wars.

He knew there is more love than hate in the world…

he knew where to find joy and how to have fun.

He knew innocent people should never die at the hands of someone with a gun.

He knew our pets pass away too soon and our children grow up too fast…

two reasons, he knew, why we should make each moment last.

He knew there is beauty in everyone…he knew it is okay to cry.

He knew the power of forgiveness, compassion and acceptance…

he knew we should all give them a try.

These are just a few of the things my grandpa knew that I still carry with me today…

For a man who did not give advice…he sure had a lot to say.
