On the eve of International Woman’s Day
a message for men and women to be unfurled
First to the men who think they are superior…
who think they rule the world…
It’s a message about your power
It’s a message about your fame…
It’s a message about your responsibility
It’s a message about your shame.
Instead of taking responsibility for your actions
you find reasons and ways to escape them…
You blame wars on your religion,
violence on your guns
you even blame the women once you’ve raped them.
But you are the ones who start our wars
(these are facts you cannot escape)
you are the ones who shoot and kill
you are the ones who rape.
If you have the power to carry out these behaviors
you also have the power to amend them…
Which means…
the wars
the killing
the raping
you have the power to end them.
But you refuse to take responsibility
It’s someone else fault…you claim
and you continue finding reasons
and other people you can blame….
Because when you look at your actions and behaviors
you try desperately to defend them…
and the wars, the killing and the raping continue
as you wait for someone else to end them.
And here is where this poem goes out to women
and here is the message to be unfurled…
You’ve known all along you are superior
perhaps it’s time you ruled the world!
