Have you ever asked yourself Who am I? It’s a question oft debated…
Because, when you stop to think about it the answer’s complicated:
Who am I? As long as a life keeps rearranging…
the answer to that will keep on changing.
You began life you must admit…
not as he or she…but it.
Until the doctors used a diagram…
to show your parents who you am.
At that point it was plain to see…
that you were either a she…or he.
When you’re young …you have no clue…
why they would sometimes call you you!
And it was years before you understood why…
they called you you but you were I.
Then you learned you were part of a family…
and you weren’t I or you…but we.
And you learned a family can be a plus…
when all together you were us.
Until adding more family members caused you scars…
when you learned things weren’t mine…but ours…
Or when something broke and your parents knew…
we weren’t all in trouble…just you.
Yet out of all that confusion you began to see…
that you were you and you meant me.
Until you met her…or was it he…
and the two of you became a we.
You fell in love…got married…and thus….
the two of you became an us.
And all you had..your house your cars…
were no longer mine or hers…but ours.
And then one day you two were elated….
when the doctor told you what you created…
And you found you were extremely glad…
that you were now called…Mom or Dad.
It’s funny isn’t it?…you think you know the answer to ‘Who I am’…but then…
the evolution of you begins again.
