My grandfather had this tradition of, after taking a shower, putting on the same lotion. He always showered at 9:00 am, no more nor less. He was like a clock. Everything had to be in time. He was very organized and he got mad when things change the way they were supposed to go. Anyway, after every shower he takes the lavanda lotion from the same spot that was at the top of his drawer and applies it to his upper chest. I sometime thought that the amount of lotion he used was too much, but no matter the amount, he would always smell the same. That same lotion he used when he was around 18, he uses now, at age 86. To be honest no one in the family like that lotion just my grandfather. It smells terrible and neither my dad nor his brothers like it. Eventhough my family tried to convince him to buy another one, my grandfather did not wanted to chance to another colon. The fact that he uses the same lotion for almost 50 years make me think that he does not just uses it for the (bad) smell, maybe for him it smells good, but because it reminds him of all the good and nice memories he had along his life. His marriage, the birth of his five children, maybe a great day at his job or the notice of getting the job. My dad told me that the lotion was a beautiful gift  of my grandfather´s father. We all think that is the reason he loves and uses that lotion. That is also the reason we stop asking him to use another lotion. He must have good memories with his father, in fact that is the reason why my grandfather is the way he is. A person that cares of the others. A person that likes to look good and smell good. It is funny how a jar of Lavanda lotion can represent the way a man is and thinks. Most of the people select the lotion that smells better, others maybe because of what it may do to your body. But there are people, like my grandfather, who thinks the smell is not everything. If you think about it, being a gift from a person so close to you may change your way of seeing things. To me, I could change my lotion to another one any time soon.
