I’ve designated this single place
A spot I like to go
When I want to disappear
From all I see and know
Sometimes I can’t face those
That know the truth of me
I can’t take their judgment
Of all that I’ve come to be
I hide my face at times
To distance myself from
Perceiving eyes
They always knew the truth
But all that came out were lies
I’m shameful, yes, but not enough reason
Haven’t done wrong, not even treason.
Can’t I live without the degree
So I won’t have to duck out in your company
Keep your lips at a lock
Just smile and hold in your ideas
That I don’t want to hear.
Let me show you myself on my own
So I don’t have to spend this life alone.
