I wasted my chances while the clock’s hands were still running,
Those vulnerable yet precious moments,
Simple times trapped in complicated situations,
Someone’s gray hairs I never knew I would miss.
Maybe that’s the purpose of silent regret:
To acknowledge our mistakes after judgment has faltered,
When we spent our breath on the wrong people,
And fought battles for our own selfish reasons.
I searched for meaning in happiness long forgotten,
While love had always come in the smallest of packages:
Shared afternoon snacks, wrinkled smiles,
The ordinary miracles I failed to recognize.
If time were kind enough to turn counterclockwise,
I’d walk more slowly than I did before—
Not to outrun sorrow or rewrite yesterday,
But to cherish the deep-lined hands still full of warmth.
