+ 9TH POEMS: On That Friday Night/Saturday Morning In July, 1974

I do not know which weekend of that July, or

when---before or after midnight---this happened:

You, Jesus, called me by my given first name;

You called me from sleep to step outside to view Your stars.

Without disgust, or mockery, or shame,

You pronounced my name.

And from that weekend, wholly,

I never again encountered one bully

from my elementary school where, in fifth grade, it began.

Starward-Led

Author's Notes/Comments:

That was the summer after tenth grade---one of the two worst years in my public school (K-12) experience.  I had turned sixteen years old the preceding June.
