+ 1ST POEMS: To Swedening, Whom I Should Have Loved Better, And Who Has, Since, Reposed In Christ; A Sonnet

Both joy and anguish sounded in your voice when

you told us, at the lunch table, "I love men"

Your courage deserved a shout; I chose the Gulag's silence,

instead, for fear of homophobic violence.

Your was a quiet beauty, and diplomatic courtesy,

far more highly evolved than that college's society

(which ought to have been called sovietiety).

You showed us the inherent and vivid vitality

of the fully embraced innate nature of HOMOSEXUALITY.

Your faith was "protestant" a very orthodox

Lutheran (thus lacking the fullness of Christ's Grace and Glory):

but you walked seductively around our all-male dormitory

in your usual dress slacks and, almost always shoeless, sheer socks.

Please, Swedening:  in Heaven, accept my repentant apology.

Starward-Led

Author's Notes/Comments:

The handle "Swedening" was derived from his Swedeish ancestry and from the word, "sweetening"---which well describes what he brought to all of us who knew him.  He was one of the most beautiful males I have ever seen, and his personalty was even more attractive.  He never wore denim of any kind; always very supple dress slacks (or, today, called "Business Casual"); and always sheer socks, nearly always shoeless when indoors.  He reposed in 20099, approximately three decades after I, through my own fault, lost connection with him.

The term sovietiety is meant to be a pun.
