My Father´s Pocket Knife
Knives have been around for hundreds of years and are used by anyone, from farmers to lawyers, My father is always carrying around his pocket knife, a red Swiss Army knife that was given to him by his father; he uses it for all sorts of things, from using the corkscrew to open a bottle of wine, to removing the price tag from clothes. He always offers his help whenever my sisters or Ineed to remove a splinter from our hands, or whenever we want to cut something. His knife is very important to him and he almost never lets us use it, it has a lot of tools, it even has a toothpick and a magnifying glass. I always ask him why he’s always carrying it around with him and he tells me that there are four important reasons: fixing, building, safety, and food. “You never know, you could someday end up in a desert island”, he says. My father was raised in a really small town where people still rode horses to go to school; he always tells me how he used to do all sorts of fun stuff with his friends, like swimming in the lake and running around by the walnut trees and vineyards. That’s pretty different from me and my sister’s childhood since we spent most of our time playing video games, riding bikes and watching cartoons. I guess if you asked me, I would’ve preferred having a childhood like his. One time, I borrowed his knife to cut up some things for school and forgot where I left it, I was really worried because it’s really valuable for my dad, but after looking around the whole house for a whole day, I found it, I felt relieved. I left it right next to the sink, where he always leaves it when he goes to bed, and acted as nothing happened, he never found out. I feel like my dad thinks that if he carries around his knife, he can survive any situation, and maybe it is true. I think I might get a pocket knife myself, after seeing all the things you can use them for.
