When you first arrived...into this world,
I counted all your fingers and toes,
With eyes...blue as oceans,
And a spike of hair that arose!
You had such a sweet smell,
Only babies possess,
And skin...so very soft,
Which I loved to caress.
And as you grew,
A little each day,
So did my love,
In every concievable way.
Soon you had said,
Your very first word,
And it was "mama",
Oh, how my eyes became blurred.
And then it was "Doo",
What a giggle we had,
Next it was "blankie",
And if memory serves...then it was Dad.
Soon you were walking,
With curiosity your guide,
And sometimes with mom,
Or me...by your side.
But then you needed,
No help at all,
You could pick yourself up,
Each time you would fall.
Then it was time,
To go off to school,
So excited you were,
You thought it was cool!
How proud was I,
Tears would fill my eyes,
A smile and a hug,
Oh...such proud good-byes.
You learned to be polite,
Considerate and kind,
Learning from your mistakes,
Only to sharpen your mind.
Well...now your nine,
What a fine boy you've become,
But I am not there,
Only your mom.
And as you grow older,
Follow your heart and your dreams,
May you gain the wisdom and compassion,
To surpass lifes extremes.
I think I have lost you,
But...not from my heart,
You have a new life now,
Of which...I'm no part.
I just hope...
Someday you will see,
That my love for you,
Is for...eternity.
Maybe...when your older,
I dream you will say,
"I wish my Dad was here",
Just maybe...today.
