Eyes can be portals into another world.

Her eyes show me what could be

But sometimes I’m scared to look.

I look into her eyes

And see what could be.

I see our future together.

We’re happy.

She blinks

I look back and I see what could be

Come crashing down.

Now I’ve done it

I’ve broken her heart.

I didn’t mean to

Don’t let it be true.

I want to look away but her eyes hold mine.

I watch as all the possibilities disintegrate

And in her eyes I see her heart shatter.

She starts to cry

And her tears wash away all the pain.

They leave behind the pieces of a new beginning.

Only this time it’s not with me.
