Black Liberation
Hair, black Skin, Black Past, Black Future, Black
I refuse to allow America to continue make me carry their burdens on my back
It’s been whipped; it’s been beaten BLACK and blue
Is it true that I only have value to you when you could control and abuse me?
Is it fair to say that still happens today
Except massas has a way of reinventing themselves
They went from the Confederate flag to the one with the blue stripe
From cowboy hats to wearing hoods to wearing badges
From this side of the human race, I’d say they’re the ones are savage
Perpetuating a broken system for their benefit and to my detriment
Yet they still want me to believe that we’re equal
It only took us almost 250 years to be free from their grips
When they landed on our Mother’s land, they did not capture slaves
They took royalty captive
I am no longer here to be used by you
We are free
Although our fight may not be over, I still want you know we are free
Let my freedom be heard and felt wherever you see me
May my footsteps cause you to marvel at my being
Because you are amongst royalty
You may have set the standard but we are the standard
We set the trends, we often extend ourselves to be used for our endless creativity
Celebrate with me
My music, I won’t turn down
My skin, I won’t be any less brown
I say it out loud
Thank you James Brown for reminding to be to tell the world
I’m BLACK and I’m proud
My choices, black
My future, still black
My people, black
You may be able erase parts of my history but you will never erase me
You won’t diminish any of my mentality in any capacity
Because we
Who have been liberated in our minds….were already… free
