It was the way
You fastened those two
Sheets of loose-leaf
With a paper clip
And placed a sticky note
On them whose meaning
Only you and I knew
Yet you kept your
Pencil handy
In case you so needed
To erase me out
Although I tried
To write on your heart
With permanent marker
It was no use
You had every intention
Of sticking me in
An envelope
Licking the seal shut
And delivering me
Back to loneliness
